Mother’s Day Around the World – 2018

Mother’s Day Around the World

Mother’s Day is a special day set aside in celebration of mothers all over the world. Many other countries celebrate Mother’s day on the second shutterstock_78489754Sunday in May while other countries celebrate on a fixed day such as the May 10th, Spain for example, will celebrate their Mother’s day on May 6th. In the UK, it’s held on the fourth Sunday of Lent and three weeks before Easter Sunday. So while not every country celebrates Mother’s Day at the same time, what’s important is to honour mothers worldwide and that most countries do celebrate this special day.

Here is a look at how Mother’s Day is celebrated across the globe.

In Australia, it is a tradition to present mother’s with chrysanthemums both because the flower is naturally in season during the time and because its name ends with “mum”.  Men will also often wear chrysanthemums on this day in honour of their mothers.
