4 Ways to Streamline Your Child’s Weekday Morning Routine
Mornings are hectic, especially when you have to get kids off to school as well as yourself off to work – many times you can already feel exhausted by the time you arrive at the office. While an entirely stress-free morning may be a thing of fairytales, there are some things you can do to make the process a bit more enjoyable.
Get it Done the Night Before
Anything that does not specifically have to be done in the morning should be done the night before. Backpacks should be packed, clothes should be laid out, and if possible lunches should be packed, freeing up more time in the mornings.
Create a Morning Routine Chart For Each Child
Creating a chart of what should be done each morning and in what order is a great way to get everyone on the same page and things accomplished in a timely manner. For young children who aren’t reading yet, use images on the chart so they can tell what needs to be done, such as an image of clothes to tell them to get dressed or an image of a toothbrush to tell them to brush their teeth.
Keep cereal, breakfast bars, yogurts, fruit, and milk within easy reach and encourage children to make their own breakfast on school mornings, helping to free up some of your time. Just be sure to have bowls and spoons where they can reach them.
Create a Morning Playlist
Let everyone have a say in what songs go on the playlist. Be sure to pick enough songs to last fifteen to twenty minutes, then play the playlist each morning when it is time for everyone to get up. Not only will the music help get everyone energized, it will also help them keep track of how much time they have left to finish getting ready – once the playlist is over it is time to walk out the door.
